Myosin Light Chain Kinase. Isoforms of myosin light chain kinase (MLCK) exist in smooth and skeletal muscle and in other tissues including the brain. They all exist as monomers that can be quite variable in mass. The smooth muscle forms range in size from approximately 130–210 kDa and the skeletal muscle forms range from 67 to 150 kDa. This diversity in size is the result of mRNA splicing and or/alternative promoter usage in the gene.

The muscle contraction pathways regulated by calcium ions show three major mechanisms [11-13]; i) Troponin-tropomyosin complex system which is related to actin-filament in skeletal muscle and cardiac muscle, ii) Myosin light chain kinase mechanism which occurs during muscle contraction with calmodulin in vertebrate's smooth muscles, iii) Calcium ions bind directly to myosin and induce muscle Definition of myosin-light-chain kinase in the Definitions.net dictionary.
